Locomotive Head-Tail-Ditch Lights, LEDS and Fiber Optics

I would like to carry the light from LEDs to head/tail/ditch lights through fiber optics.  What fiber optics size/diameter is recommended for any of those lights, and where can you buy these fiber optics for model trains without ordering 50 ft online from Radio Shack?
