Small to Large wheels on 1:20.3 Boxcar

I would like to replace the small wheel trucks  that are on a 1:20.3 spectrum log skid car with the standard, large wheel  Bachmann freight trucks.  It looks like the body mount coupler needs to go, which is a shame, as its really nice. It seems that the rounded front of the tang needs to be removed and the coupler arm itself needs to have about 1/2" removed with a new hole drilled for the attachment screw. If the large wheels trucks are used without modification, the height is OK but there is a huge amount of spacing between cars.

Has anyone done this? I would appreciate any specific advice on the best way to do this, before I start cutting away. :)

I haven't tried it, but the couplers and pocket do make a great operating front coupler for an Annie or Big Hauler 4-6-0!

Thanks Bill, that's good to know. I'm going to give the wheel switch a go this weekend.

John,
Go ahead and give it a shot, looks like you will be the first to do it.
Let us know how it works out!
