Painting the EM-1

deciding that I would like my EM-1 to look a bit different from others I broke out the masking tape and a rattle can of oxide red and went to town,No didn't get to carried away just enough to be able to tell mine from the other fellers...
Some very light weathering will come next.

To help your red roof story:

Many times on the B&O, locomotives would go in to the shop for maintenance/repair.  One of the first steps was to sand down the cab roof and/or the tender top.  They were given a coat of red lead to stop/prevent rust/corrosion of these areas.

Every once-in-a-blue moon, a locomotive was called back into service before the painters could get a chance to paint black over the red lead.  Hence, there are some rare photographs of B&O locomotives with red rooves.  A red roof was not a regular practice on the B&O, but occasionally one would get caught with its pants down, as it were.  

Call it a bit of B&O folklore.

I seemed to be obsessed with putting red rooves on my 0-6-0 D-30s.  Just can't help it.
