Need some Advice Bachmann 2-8-0 tender to drawbar pin

  Hi everyone,

Got my wonderful kitbashed ICRR #908 but the pin on the tender where it connects to drawbar is broken any suggestions for a easy fix.

Will post photos once my site is back online.

After looking at the drawbar pin on my Russian decapod looks as if the pin may be plastic correct?
poor choice that! you don't say did it break off flush with the tender floor?
or is there a stub of it left?
as to the 1st I'd carefully drill a hole and use a piece of brass or plastic the same diameter gluing it in with a good epoxy,if possible soldering a small brass piece or in the case of plastic a small square of  plastic on one end and inserting it from the inside , that would make it a little more sturdy.
On the other hand if you are lucky and there's a bit of a stub left using either plastic or brass tubing maybe you could simply slip it over the remaining part of the pin and glue it in place

Having seen  pics of the IC 908 kit bash (she's a beaut!) hope you can get'er fixed!

Hi GN,

Thanks for the ideas it broke off flush with the tender floor no stub. I thought of drilling it out but the plug for the wires is right above the pin location. And I dont want to damage those..

Any repair for me is tricky right now I got one good eye my right one is behind a patch waiting on laser surgery July 31st which will require something like over a 1,000 burns to fix. All I can say is thank goodness for insurance and morphine. Doctor said bring your dad and your most powerful pain meds as you will need both.

Man that sucks! K' lets try this maybe a friend could help.
seeing as the drawbar pin is longish,and the connie's not going to be pulling large numbers of cars try a piece of plastic a 1/4 inch square or so and thick enough to insert a piece of plastic again the diameter to fit.
and epoxy the works over the original pin location. I have even used the brass tip out of a cheap ballpoint pen with success.

  Hi GN,

Got very lucky using the original box as a cradle I eased her over on her top and sanded the spot of the post smooth then took a small tap and drill and drilled a shallow hole and used a short piece of brass rod. #908 wont be pulling over 10 cars at a time thats what those 2-10-2s from Proto 2000 is for  I will get a photo of 908 with her caboose and 2-10-2 as soon as I get some batteries for the camera. I haven't used it in so long or been shopping in so long I forgot I needed  them lol.

My traveling and walking all over a giant box store is over and to think I used to walk 5 miles a night  almost around a casino floor making sure the brass was polished to a T and listening to slot machines all night long.Why I havent been to a casino exept to eat since I left there LOL.

I use a thin brass tube, can't recall the size and just carefully drill a hole where the pin snapped off.  A drop of thick or gap filling CA glue and away you go.

To find the correct diameter brass tube take the draw bar to the hobby store and find a tube that will either just slip into the drawbar hole of a piece that is very slightly larger and just ream out the drawbar hole, with a file, to fit the tube.

I use the brass tube on my switches for passing the home made point activating springs up from under the subroadbed to tie level, that way the tube doesn't go to waste and I've always plenty in stock.  :-)
