Please help a rookie Santa!!!

I am setting up the Pacific Flyer for my kid's Christmas gift, and no matter what I do, the locomotive will only go backward. If you change its direction on the track, it reverses the direction on the controller but will still only go backward! Can somebody offer me a tip??

If this is a DC set, I would make sure that the wires are connected to the DC post going to the track.  If wires are on the correct post, try switching the wires.  This should change the direction of the train.  It it does than there is something wrong with the power pack.y

Your set is a DC set. Follow RAM's advice except that I think he meant to say that your power pack is defective if switching the wires on the terminal posts (or at the track connection but not both) has no affect on train direction.
