I have the old Split chassis F40ph from the old Patriot set. I was wondering if you can't install a Bachmann DCC into the F40ph, is it possible to put the new Acela HHP motor into the F40ph? Do they fit and connect properly with the F40ph motor housing?
Thank you very much.

Sincerely

Unless you have a bad motor in your F40PH, why not just add a decoder?  The procedure is very similar to installing a decoder in a split frame H16-44, which is detailed here:

Growing older is mandatory but growing up is optional.

I am new to DCC and the diesel runs slow on my layout.

The F40PH was intentionally geared to run more slowly.  I don't know why.

Chances are good there is nothing wrong with your motor.  The reduction gears and/or worms are designed/built that way.

I have one.  I have run the loco without the shell.  One can tell, at full throttle, the motor is running just as fast as other diesels, at full throttle.

Hope that helps.

With a measure section of track and a stop watch, you can find out what speed the loco is really running at.
Many of us use to run trains far to fast and that is our frame of reference.

An on line calculator link is right below.
