Tender Hitch

Does anyone know a way to fix the annoying post style hitch that connects to tender to the Locomotive. I hate how difficult it is to put the pin in the tiny hole on the Locomotive's bar everytime I need to replace the  train on the tracks.. I want to make it so it stays connected.

Some kind of slice of rubber tubing to slip over bottom of post?

on30gn15's Idea has been discuss before and many people suggested fish tank airpump tubing, or is prefer rubber as mentioned use R/C engine fuel line which is available at most any hobby shop.
