hopefully the stars and "rank" will be removed completely..
some people see those stars and the "rank"  as a challenge, and feel like they have to post a million pointless posts to increase their rank..because somehow more stars increases their sense of worth.."I have more stars! wow, im so cool and better than people with less stars!"  :P

"cooltrainguy",
im not saying YOU would think that way!  ;D
im just using your post as a good reason to bring this topic up.

this has been an issue on many forums...its best to just get rid of the stars and rank completely..

its not really relevant to anything if someone has made one post or thousands..

Yes I did, and I don't like being called a newbie. Maybe it changes at 50.

Maybe the stars will just change color, like on E-bay.
B-man will be our 5 star general. Highest rank period.
Barry,

US Board so only logical it should have a class based ranking system.

What do all the symbols on the right (screen's right) hand side mean?  What is a "Jr. Member"?
Translation, please.   ???

"Jr. Member" refers to the name the forum gives members based on how many posts they have made..like I said above, I hope that feature can be disabled..
looks like it changed from "Newbie" to "Jr. Member" at 50 posts..
it will change to something else at 100 probably..

the symbols mean different things..
just put your cursor on them, and a little window appears telling you what they mean, like this:

you can also just click on them and see what happens!  ;D

Yep!

Now we get a valid e-mail address for everyone, including the Voice of God, "Hunt".

how come "hunt" gets to be the voice of god? That's just not fair, we should take turns, like "student of the month"...just kidding Hunt!
shouldn't that be "student of the "mouth" ;D ;D ;D 8) 8) 8) ;D 8) ;D 8) ;D 8) ::)

Dear All,
I have indeed removed the stars and ranks. Everyone has one star and is a member. If you misbehave, you'll be gone. As Scotty says, we had some people posting for the sake of numbers, presumably to get to the next level. Well, there is no longer a next level, so there's no need to post promiscuously.
Have fun!

Bach-Man, All:

Thanks, good decision! Like you, I was already seeing the 'numbers push' with quite a few "Looks great . . ." posts in the areas I regularly visit. I've noticed that most of the public forums I use have abandoned the ranking systems for the same reasons.

The new forum seems to be working well, but there are still a few folks on other forums saying they can't register. One pointed out there was no "contact us" button. I haven't needed to contact, so haven't looked. Can you tell us how to respond to those who can't seem to get in?

Thanks Again & Happy RRing,

Jerry

That sounds good.

Maybe if you kill the post count, then people won't post.

If people don't post, then what's the point of the counting them?
