Hi All!

I need help in disassembling the body of my SD-45. I want to insert a sound decoder.

I see the tabs that snap into the frame but I can't get to them without taking off the railings.

Anyone have a better way of removing the body cover?

Thanks tons

There should be no need to remove the railings.  The 4 shell tabs lock into the frame.  To release the tabs, turn the locomotive over.  You should then be able to insert the blade of a small screw driver to release the tab.  When I do this, I usually free the tab with the screwdriver blade and insert a flat toothpick before I remmove the screw driver.  The keeps the tab from locking back into the frame.  You need to do this for all 4 tabs.

Also, here is a like to another site that shows the loco with the shell removed.

Hopefully, this will help you.

Thanks, tons. That did the trick! The decoder is installed and working just fine.
