What oil should I use with plastic to metal gears, as with the Shay.  I use the Hob-E Lube system, from Woodland Scenics.  I had to replace the entire side frames on this loco due to the gearing problem.  I am hoping to be more attentive on the maintenance part of the hobby!!
Thanks ,

I use LaBelle 102 gear lubricant. A film of the lubricant. A lot is not better.
I also use a puff of 134, PTFE.
You can get the two in a single bottle now. I picked up both quite a few years ago before LaBelle put out the two in a single bottle. It is LaBelle 106.
For axle and motor bearings. I use a film of 108.

Whatever you use m,ake certain that it is plastic compatible.
Assume that anything which is not explicitly identified as
plastic compatible is not. Even a tiny bit of the wrong lube
can damage your model and even if you wipe it off later.
