Remote turnouts (On/Off ?)

Just hooked up my Bachman remote turnouts. Train runs fine and switches work, but I have read that I should leave the switch position to off (middle) or they will burn out. Is this true? New to the hobby.

Dear DJ,
The controllers are momentary contact, so, in effect, they are off except for the split second when they are thrown.
