at what point should a power booster be added...we have 8 power engines but only run one or two at a time...7 passenger cars that are always lit , 13 switches and a lot of track but will soon be adding lighted structures

Is all this hooked to your EZ command or other DCC system?

RAM

The amount of track you have doesn't make any difference.  The lighted structures can be powered with a cheap powerpack,  In most cases you could also use a check powerpack to power the 13 switches.

Yes all is hooked to the ez command ...the switches have their own power supply as does the turntable that will go online in a few weeks

it sounds like you are reaching the point where you should seriously consider replacing the ez command with something more sophisticated.

when i got my digitrax unit, my son was 4. he quickly learned how to punch in locomotive numbers to select the locomotive he wanted to run. most children are better at learning new technology than we are, they have no old ways to unlearn.

You have probably not seen these links but they are loaded with plenty of DCC info if you take your time to read through them.
Store the links in Favorites.

For those of you who have figured it out yet, store the links in Favorites and read through them.
You will need them in the futures.

Another very useful web page with a ton of info on making turnouts "DCC Friendly" if they're not already, and dealing with those oddball layout wiring issues:

If at first you don't succeed, throw it in the spare parts box.
