Is the circuit board necessary?

Now that I've tracked down all the correct wires coming from the engine and tender pick-ups, lights, and such, do I even need the circuit board?  The tsunami decoder I want to install does not have the 8 pin plug, so why not remove the board completely?

Tell me where my logic breaks down and it usually does...

            As long as you know which is which wire coming from the loco and tender, you can connect directly to the decoder.
