turnout and crossover control switch differences?

Can anyone tell me why there seems to be two different types of control switches for Bachmann turnouts and crossovers? My crossovers have the larger "box" type switches, while the turnouts have a smaller, thinner switch. Is there a difference?

I think I know what you are talking about.  The thin one is a cheep push switch while the other is better because if you use that one it will let you hook the switch track to a track powered by DCC, the other won't.
