Communication between Dynamis handset and Base

I recently let the batteries burn out on my handset by forgetting to turn the unit off. After I  replaced the batteries, I no longer have communication between the handset and the base.  The base ID is set to 0, I have pressed the stop button but nothing seems to work.  help!
