My husband has an HO track with a DCC Controller.  Is this engine compatible with that?

simkon

Probably not since the loco does not have DCC and most DCC systems cannot operate standard DC locos. Look for locomotives advertised as DCC On Board or DCC-Equipped or just plain DCC. But avoid locos that are DCC-Ready because they require the install of a decoder before they will have DCC. And DCC-Ready can have many meanings depending on the manufacturer.

I would avoid any version of "DCC-ready" unless you know that your husband knows how to install decoders.  It's usually not too difficult but sometimes it can be a bear and the whole idea of DCC is a little bit intimidating for some modelers.  Stick with items that are "DCC Onboard" or equivalent.  Then you can't go wrong.

Depends if it is a DCC loco version of the 0-6-0 or not.

If it is not,,it can be done but not advisable. DCC uses a higher voltage than DC, which can burn a DC motor out.

If it IS one of the **New**  0-6-0s',, then yes it should be compatible.

There ARE DCC 0-6-0s' available, here they are

and then there are the  0-6-0 saddle tank switchers.

I have had a couple of those with the older type motor but not easy to modify and run. The electrical pickup is rather poor and the pancake type motor is not easy to modify.
At least get a loco that is DCC ready or one with DCC on board if he does not know how to install a decoder.
I have never seen a motor burned out with proper DCC use.

Below is a placce I and many other buy from with good prices. You could WOW him with a steam sound locomotive. The 2-8-0 is a well liked loco, DCC ready, DCC on board and DCC with sound.
The 0-6-0T with DCC on board is nice.

I have the Spectrum 44 ton and 70 ton diesels, the 4-4-0 and 4-6-0.

I think the real question should be, "Is the Bachmann Standard Range 0-6-0 switcher worth while purchasing or should a look for a better quaility though more expensive locomotive?"

I think the answer to that is obvious.

Debaroon

Apparently you can't order directly from Bachman, so where is a good online place to order from?

simkon

The favorite spot on ebay is an excellent dealer. Remember, you will need a DCC version.
