I am new to DCC and wonder if a locomotive that is advertised as DCC ready needs anything else other that the EZ controller or Dynamis system?

A DCC Ready locomotive also requires the installation of a DCC decoder in addition to the DCC system. So, you must install a decoder before you use your locomotive with a DCC system.

"DCC onboard" is the term used by Bachmann to indicate that the locomotive already has the decoder installed.
