Bachmann's Narrow Gauge Mallet Even for HO scale?

We examine Bachmann's narrow gauge mallet and find uses for the loco other than On30 at:

The Mallet comes close to the plans of this 1906 Great Northern 2-6-6-2 in HO scale. Just needs new domes, cab fittings and the tender narrowed.

A most interesting observation!  To really do the conversion based on the narrow-gauge mechanism would be a little more complex; you would really need a whole new superstructure to do the GN locomotive right, due to its Belpaire firebox (GN being one of the the few roads to use it in large numbers besides the Pennsylvania, and as far as I know the only one to apply it to a 4-8-4).

At the same time, if it works out dimensionally for the GN locomotive, it should work out for some other Baldwin-built early 2-6-6-2s; a key dimension would be the 55-inch drivers Baldwin used on its early Mallets. 

Looks like I'm going to have to do another dimension search on engines. . .

The On30 Mallet drivers scale out to 57". Close enough considering the availability of HO drivers in the mid-fifties.

The boiler is the same diameter as the GN loco. A belpaire isn't that hard to add. The domes just need to be shortened.
