Would like to add a Chicago "L" to a layout. Is there an HO  model railroad version of this train?

You'd have to build/paint the kits, but that's you're best bet.

IHP also makes kits, but these are much more in depth and require more skill than the IMW kits.

The model kits look interesting if expensive. It does bring back memories of actually riding most of those models  on the prototype road  C.T.A. in Chicago.  John II.

...a splendid marketing opportunity for Bachmann or some other maker!

How many other potential customers out there in modeler-land? (Railsider checks in as No. 2 on the list). Somebody started making New York Subway cars a few years ago, because there are apparently enough fans who want to buy them. Chicagoans (and nostalgic ex-Chicagoans) arise and let the industry know we're out here waiting.

Hopefully,

Walthers did sell an NYC subway set last year in their Proto 1000 line.  IMW however sells a much wider line of urban railway equiptment
