Smoke fluid leakage

I didn't see any topics/info that would help me so i might as well ask.


Having nothing planned, i ran my 0-6-0 and didn't like the results. It didn't smoke when i ran it for 5 minutes so i added 3 drops to make sure it worked. It didn't make that evaporating sound so i ran it. after 3 laps, little drops were spotted on the tracks, and i took a closer look and it looks like its leaking from the underside. I tried it again with the same results. Its bad enough i had to get  my old engine replaced but with this one only having 2 and a half hours of run time, with only picking it up to set it on the tracks is not making my day much better. i could see if it derailed or fell off something but it never did. Is it possible to fix this or do i need to send it in...?

It can be fixed...but only by not using the smoke or removing it. There is nothing wrong with your loco, you just put too much smoke in, sending the loco in will accomplish nothing, but put you out the cost of shipping. The Bachmann smoke machine normally is unpredictable and very inconsistent at best.

Yes ABC is right The problem seems to be it doesn't get hot enough to be reliable.  When I ran my DC 2-6-2 Prairie on my DCC layout it got full power and smoked nicely because it was hot. 

However I did not want to ruin this loco so its been retired and will be the star at our wedding where we are creating a special train that will be displayed around the cake.

The oil film will accumulate on different things and attract dust. Eventually you will have to scrub the loco/car shells in warm water and detergent to remove the accumulation.
Almost prototypical though. Prototype locos spread a lot of coal soot/dust everywhere. Over the years a lot of  oil dripped off the steamer running gear. Remember the photos of the side rods being oiled. Oil in the steam from the oilers used in steam locos was spread everywhere.

that' s what happened to one of mine (i have2) before i sent it back, (i didn't know any better ) when i but the smoke fluid in it,there wa a big puddle on the track and the smoke unit was empty

its been a pain in the arse and like ABC said, they're unpredictable (it shuts down for no reason and comes on again while idling for 10 minutes) So unless im in the mood, chances are im not gonna use it.
