I'm planning on doing something special for the first day of summer vacation. For the last month, I've planned to catch Amtrak 48, the 5:50 Lake shore limited. The plan is head out right before 5:00 but it might change. From studying pictures, 48 is a eastbound. Meaning, it'll pass by the spot I'll be at before it reaches the station. Anyone know what time i should estimate the time it should come by? its a 5 mile distance by road but i think its about 1-2 by rail. What time should i estimate to see it if its on time?

Thanks for any info!

1. Where are you catching it from.
2. That would be the Late-for-Sure Limited.

1.I'm gonna try to catch it at my spot at triskett. It's about 15 feet away from mile marker 187.

2. Can't stop laughing at that nick-name!

I have ridden this train several times (though not recently) It was never on time but was always very comfortable.

The last time I took the train, it was a while before I got all the straw out of my clothes. ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

pldthbridge,

Going hobo class is better now days not so much straw, if your lucky you can jump on a car carrier climb inside a new car and recline the seats, take the keys out of the ashtray or glove box and turn the radio on, just don't start the engine there's not much gas in them. Oh and keep your foot off the break pedal that will get ya caught for sure.

NM

P.S. Don't jump on trains it's just not safe and will land ya in jail, railroad cops are serious these days

The railroad dicks were serious on the Pennsy in the old days -- 1950s -- too, but we still hopped freights.  Sometimes I'm surprised I lived to adulthood.  Sometimes my wife says I haven't.  Sometimes she's right about that!
