There was a company called Ernst that made re-gearing kits for Athearn diesels.  I still have a HiF RDC with Ernst gears.  It runs great.  It's on my short list for a major overhaul, replacing the sort of funky draft gear with probably 30 series Kadees, adding DCC, some nice lighting, and maybe sound.
Just workin' on the railroad.
