There's a lot of free card stock models available on the web. Try googling "cabin card stock model" or something like that. You can try them out and if you don't like the model, just throw it away. You print them out and then glue the print onto cereal box or similar card stock. Then you cut and assemble. An Elmer's glue stick works well for this. I did a quick search and found this OO sized building:

I'm afraid I got carried away and what started as a "quick and dirty" got more and more refined as I went along. Unfortunately it got wet and the printer ink ran, so into the recycling bin it went.

I bet your little engineer would enjoy working on these buildings with you.

Walthers does not carry all the kits offered - so you may want to Google "Valley Model Trains" to see more selections. I did not include any plastic kits nor any European selections (such as Noch or Faller) as they probably wouldn't fit your scene.

If you haven't yet tried a laser-cut kit - you need to. A little patience and some basic hand tools will result in a structure you can be proud to display.

Maxx, I'm glad you like Greeley's Place. I would recommend B.T.S. kits (the less complicated ones) as a good introduction to laser kits. Should you decided on Greeley's (or any other craftsman kit), the most important thing to remember is to brace the exterior walls! These kits are made of thin basswood or thin plywood and will warp with changes in temperature/humidity. Bracing (with stripwood on the inside) will go a long way in preventing this occurrence.

There is a camp ground here in the states that's made up of old cabooses. Could an old caboose set on blocks do the trick?

Since using a caboose was mentioned, I thought I'd include this post. While 'Googling' caboose motels I was amazed at how many of these places there are in the U.S.

if I use a caboose I would need to make a mine rail to where the caboose/cabin sits as you would have to stretch your imagination on how it got there other wise...maybe the lake was a gravel pit that filled in with water...hmmm not bad
