will the Bachmann ez command also control sound or is it just speed direction and lights

It can control sound if you install a sound decoder in your loco or buy a loco that is equipped with a sound decoder. In function mode buttons 2-9 can potentially control sound, so if your decoders has more than 8 sounds then you will not be able to use them all.
