A problem at collinwood yard.

I was at Collinwood yard today, it was great! i saw a Guilford Rail System diesel near the engine house, a Conrail caboose, and lots of rental diesels. I went over to the fuel facility to tape trains. When the first train left, it stopped about 100 feet away from its position, and backed up a good 50-80 feet. i don't know what happened but it seemed like something went wrong. 10 minutes later, it restarted on its journey. Anyone know what might have happened?

Maybe it didn't have allf it's cars.

i didn't see anyone leave and i think conrails do like playing Simon says  ;) (first to arrive last to leave) It is possible it didnt have all its cars. with a mile long train, its about a quarter mile away from the yard. Thanks for the suggestions!

Let me add.  If they did add car they would have sat there for some time pumping up the air lines.  The time would depend on how many cars were added.

that is not true. in many yards there is a ground line that standing cars can be connected to. when a train picks up those cars all the crew has to do is connect the air line and kick off the hand brakes. it can be done in 5-10 minutes if a crew wants to.

How about knock off the brakes and then do a "set and release"... Always want tone safe (and legal),
