Dear All,

This is a bit of a simplification, but by wiring the motors in series,

you would have to "throttle up" to double the output voltage of the transformer to get the same speed. 

Twice the track voltage gives quadruple the available power to the onboard sound system.  (Power = Vsquared/R, or power varies as the voltage squared.)

Depending on how the circuit is regulated, this would allow as much as a 6 dB increase in audio output (sound volume).

That (6dB) is the effect the 1970's automotive under-dash power-boosters (audio amps) gave when you "punched the boost button".  (Tull - Aqualung - Locomotive Breath) 

Just what we needed to cover up the noise of our rusty mufflers dragging on the ground.
