Modelling Fluorescent Lamps?

Hello all,  :)

A current modelling project of mine has me wondering how to simulate the 2-foot and 4-foot fluorescent strip lamps that have been installed into homes since the late 1950s.

Of course, they would have to operate....probably from a 12volt GOW globe source, but the poser is how to make them look prototypical....even, white illumination with no hot spots....

Anyone have any ideas?  ???

Thanks to all.

Get some clear plastic rod for the bulbs sand them with fine steelwool cut some plexiglass for the housings sand it as well glue the bulb to the base mask the bulb then paint all but the back of the housing flat black then white sand down the sides  of two white LEDs glue the LEDs at either end pointing at each other make a cover for the LEDs  light it up presto... Your done. Or you can buy real miniature florescent lights I saw them at allied trains in Culver city California a while back.

Hey, thanks NM.

As usual, you seem to have a great suggestion.  :D

It's worth a try....

Or go to Walthers and search for "Fluorescent."  Lots of results.

Hey CSRR Man,

Thanks for the link.

Those Micro Structure ones look pretty good!

(But I can figure on doubling the listed prices by the time I add airmail postage to Australia.)

What a great bunch of blokes you all are! ;D

LEDs are definitely the right light.
